Helen Kocis Edwards is a Melbourne based visual artist working predominantly in printmaking, drawing, painting and multimedia. She has a studio at Artery Co-operative (www.acoop.com.au) Helen completed an MFA at RMIT in 2009. She was successful in attaining an ArtPlay New Ideas Lab Grant 2016 and Australia Council ArtStart Grant 2010. Artist Residencies have included Print Council of Australia Pop Up Exhibition. NKN Gallery 2016, Kimberley Training Institute Broome 2015 and Chaing Mai Thailand 2013.
Three successive multimedia collaborations (1000 Tears, Bookends and Pride, Mischief & Murder) which included works on paper and animations have been included in Melbourne Writers Festivals (MWF) from 2013 to 2015. In 2015 Helen was a MWF Illustrator in Residence drawing live in Federation Square. She conducted drawing sessions for children at ArtPlay Birrurung Marr in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Helen also collaborated with composers for two visual art, music and performance events at Loreto Convent Toorak in 2007 and 2010.
Regular solo exhibitions have been held since 2003 including LWOO Port Jackson Press (2016 and 2013), Red Gallery (2011) and Qdos Gallery Lorne (2007). Helen has participated in over forty group exhibitions. The International Flyway Print Exchange has enabled her work to travel to galleries in Australia, New Zealand and Asia in 2015/16. Selected entry exhibitions have included the Great Authors Print Exchange and Bellarine Printmakers Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop 2017, Group shows at Port Jackson Press 2016 - 2014, Swan Hill Print Prize 2014, Northern Lights at Bundoora Homestead 2013, InkMasters Cairns (2016t to 2012) and Silk Cut Linocut Awards (2011, 2000 and 1998). Helen’s work is held in the print collections of National Gallery Canberra, State Library of Victoria, Silk Cut and Fremantle City Council and private collections nationally and internationally.
